The flag of Mexico was flying over Plymouth recently when Country Choice and Appleby Westward sailed in for the final of the 2018 Create a Pasty competition, in support of Marie Curie.
The winning pasty, stuffed with a Mexican Chicken Fajita-style filling, was created by Tamzin Grebot representing Gilletts Spar Silverton, and was inspired by a dish she cooks regularly for her father.
The champion pasty is now in production and will be on sale in stores the summer. Every pasty sold during the first three months will generate 5p for the Marie Curie charity.
The Create a Pasty final was held at the Plymouth Gin Distillery in March. More than one hundred entries, including the weird and whacky, were narrowed down to three worthy contenders for the title - Pork, Apple and Cider, Chilli Beef and Chicken Fajita.
After a distillery tour, inspirational speeches from retired Marie Curie nurse Carol Drummond, and Alan Drummond from the hugely successful Plymouth Fundraising Group, the judges deemed Tamzin’s Chicken Fajita recipe the overall winner, although everyone was delighted to have contributed to such a great cause.
