As part of the Brakes Group we have reduced CO2 eq. emissions by 32% relative to our turnover in 2006 and plan to reduce this by a further 20% by 2020 relative to our turnover in 2010.

Brakes fully supports the Government’s action plan for a low carbon economy and is facilitating this by a range of “best practice” initiatives and investment programmes that are being rolled out across the Group aimed at minimising, energy, fuel, food miles and waste to landfill.

In 2003 Brakes took voluntary membership of Climate Change Agreements.

In March 2013, we renewed our commitments for a further decade with the Dept for Energy and Climate Change (DECC).

The majority of our sites are therefore exempt from CRC (Carbon Reduction Commitment) legislation.

Our environmental philosophy and operational procedures are implemented through a team of Environmental Champions.

Each area has a Regional champion, who cascades information to a Site champion.

Each Site Champion is responsible for ensuring his or her site complies with procedures, policies and a continuous improvement programme.
