Just like Champagne made in the region of Champagne in France, the Cornish pasty is protected with a “Protected Geographical Indication” (PGI) status under EU Protected Food Names legislation. It’s got the PGI stamp of approval from the Cornish Pasty Association.
This means only a pasty made to a specific recipe in Cornwall can be called a “Cornish Pasty”.
What makes a real Cornish Pasty?
Cornish pasty are “D” shaped and crimped on the side (never on top) and contain potato, swede, onion and beef, plus seasoning to taste.
