New recyclable bakery bags
We’re pleased to introduce a new range of recyclable bakery bags across our bread, baguette and film-fronted packaging. This update means every bag can now go straight into standard recycling bins, with no need to remove the film window.
To make this possible, the film sections on the bags have been slightly reduced. It’s a small design change with a big impact, helping cut more than six tonnes of plastic each year. To put that into perspective, that’s roughly the weight of an adult African male elephant.
This change is part of our ongoing commitment to reducing our environmental impact and developing packaging that’s easier for customers to recycle. We’ve been steadily working toward more sustainable solutions across our range, and these new bags are another step forward in that journey.
Even though the new design uses more paper, which is normally more costly than plastic, the overall change remains cost neutral. Every bag will now also feature the recycling symbol and the Forest Stewardship Council logo, reflecting our commitment to using paper from responsibly managed forests and recycled sources.
As part of the update, the two existing bread bag sizes are being streamlined. The smaller size has been increased by 20mm in length so it can comfortably fit all loaves in our range.
These new bags offer a practical, more sustainable option without adding cost, making it easier for retailers and customers to recycle with confidence.
